Air assist is used to maintain the cut/engraving region free of debris and the beam route free of smoke. It works similarly to coolant on a lathe.
In 2014 i coined the term “smoke assist” to describe the assistance of air flow inside the machine to maintain the optics clear of smoke and prevent dirt from settling on your optics.
